Preheat an oven to 350°F. Butter a 13-by-9-inch baking dish.
Put the stuffing cubes in a large bowl and set aside.
In a large fry pan over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the onion, celery and apple and sauté, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer to bowl.
In the same pan, add another tablespoon of butter and brown the sausage, stirring and crumbling with a fork, until cooked through, about 10 minutes. Using the slotted spoon, transfer the meat to the bowl with the onion mixture.
Add the broth and mix well; add extra broth softer consistency.
Add the beaten egg mixture, the chestnuts, parsley and to the bowl with the bread. Season with salt and pepper and stir to mix well.
Transfer the dressing to the prepared baking dish and bake until browned and crispy about 45 minutes. Serves 10 to 12.
