20-30 minutes
5 cups
4 pounds apples ( I enjoy Mac, Cortland, HoneyCrisp and Granny Smith)
2 tablespoons Kerry Gold butter or 1 tablespoon Coconut Oil
1/2 cup water or apple juice ( may need to add more if too thick)
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon - adjust to taste
1/8 teaspoon of Himalayan salt
1/4 cup Pure Maple Syrup - adjust to taste
1 tablespoon of lemon juice (Freshly Squeezed)
Crushed walnuts
Cut apples and set aside
Heat pot and add butter and melt
add apples and saute for 1 minute
add the seasonings, water and maple syrup and lower heat to medium-low
Cover with lid and cook until soft (about 20-30 minutes and stir occasionally)
Allow to cool and adjust seasoning to taste
Use a blender, food processor or Immersion blender to make a smooth applesauce.
If you like it chunky you can mash with a wooden spoon or a potato masher
Garnish with chopped walnuts or your favorite nuts
